On one hand, volunteering makes you feel good about yourself on a purely selfish level. There are few things more satisfying than helping people. Hammering nails on a new home while the owner beams with pride right next to you is an amazing feeling. Walking or running to raise funds for a cause close to your heart helps to give you a sense of purpose and helps you realize just how lucky you are. the trees seem to laugh at the clouds while yet reaching for them with swaying branches. trees must think that they are real, rooted, somebody, and that perhaps the clouds are only tickled water which sometimes blocks their sun. but trees are clouds, too, of green leaves-clouds that only move a little. trees grow and change and dissipate like their airborne cousins.and what am i but a cloud of thoughts and feelings and aspirations? don't i put out tentative mists here and there? don't i occasionally appear to other people as a ridiculous shape of thoughts without my intending to? don't i drift toward the north when i feel the breezes of love and the warmth of compassion?

if clouds are beings, and beings are clouds, are we not all well advised to drift, to feel the wind tucking us in here and plucking us out there? are we such rock-hard bodily lumps as we imagine?drift, let me. sing to the sky, will i. one in many, are we. let us breathe the breeze and find therein our roots in the spirit.

the reasons for this strange phenomenon are obvious. during the period from 1990 to 1995 with the development of our socialist market economy peoples income, bonus and different kinds of benefits, increased rapidly. though the price of eggs rose gradually, the demand for them grew sharply, too. on the other hand, when the demand for eggs reached a certain point, it stopped rising because people began to spend more and more money on clothing, recreations and tours round the country and even round the world.

I think it is true that in almost every country today each household and family produces a large amount of waste every week. Most of this rubbish comes from the packaging from the things we buy, such as processed food.

The reason why we have so much packaging is that we consume so much more on a daily basis than families did in the past. Convenience is also very important in modern life, so we buy packaged or canned food that can be transported from long distances and stored until we need it, first in the supermarket, and then at home.

However, the amount of waste produced is also a result of our tendency to use something once and throw it away. We forget that even the cheapest plastic bag has used up valuable resources and energy to produce. We also forget that it is a source of pollution and difficult to dispose of.

I think, therefore, that governments need to raise this awareness in the general public. Children can be educated about environmental issues at school, but adults need to take action. Governments can encourage such action by putting taxes on packaging, such as plastic bags, by

providing recycling services and by fining households and shops that do not attempt to recycle their waste.

With the political will, such measures could really reduce the amount of rubbish we produce. Certainly nobody wants to see our resources used up and our planet poisoned by waste.
