英语四级作文万能 篇一

ife gets noisier every day and very few people can be free from noise:of some sort or another. it doesnt matter where you live in the middle of a modern city, or a faraway village the chances are that youll be disturbed by jet airplanes, transistor radios, oil-powered engines, etc. we seem to be getting used to noise, too.

some people feel quite lonely without background music while theyre working. scientific tests have shown that total silence can be a very frightening eperience for a human being. however, some people enjoy listening to pop music which is very loud, and this can do harm to their eardrums.

the noise level in some discos is far above the usual safety level for heavy industrial areas.

one recent report about noise and concentration suggested that although lots of people say that noise disturbs their concentration, what really influences their ability to concerttrate is a change in the level of noise. it goes on to say that a background noise which doesnt change too much (music, for eample) may even help people to concentrate.

My First Chemistry Teacher

I will never forget my first chemistry teacher. He was a little man with thick glasses, but he had a strange way of making his classes lively and interesting. And his lessons were not easily forgotten.

I still remember one of my lessons from this teacher. After the students were all in the lab, the teacher brought out three bott[es. One was filled with petrol, one with castor oil and one with vinegar. "Now watch carefully," said the teacher.

He then filled a cup with some of the petrol, some of the castor oil and some of the vinegar. As the students watched him quiet[y, he mixed the three together. After that, he held up one of his fingers and showed it to the class. He then dipped it into the cup. After a few seconds he took his finger out. "Now watch," he said. "Remember, you must do every thing as I do."

He put a finger in his mouth, tasted it and smiled, looking rather pleased. Then he handed the cup around the class of students. Each student dipped a finger into the mixture and sucked it. Instead of smiling, each of them made a face. The mixture tasted terrible.

When the cup was at last returned to the teacher, he said sadly, "I' m sorry, none of you watched carefully enough. Yes, I sucked a finger, but the finger I put into my muth was not the one I had dipped into the cup."

It was my first important lesson as a student of chemistry and I never forgot it.

In recent years, there have been many disputes about young’givings seats to the elderly on buses. Some people maintain that the elderly are physically weak and are more prone to falling and getting hurt when standing on a moving bus. Therefore, young people, especially those taking the priority seats, have obligation to offer the seats to senior citizens to prevent potential hurt.

Some people, however, think the other way. Young passengers, they say, pay for the bus trip, so they enjoy the same right as the senior citizens to use the seats on the bus. Besides, many young riders, though physically strong, can’escapet being exhausted by a day ’ s work and are in great need the seats on the buses toorcing.Fo them to give up the seats seems inhuman and unfair.

In my view, whether it is compulsory for the young to give up their seats to needy riders depends on the kind of seats they take. In general, it is a moral requirement for young passengers on regular seats to do so. However, for those sitting on priority seats, it is a legal obligation.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a position on the topic: A Letter to the President of the University about Improving the Sports Facilities on Campus. You should write no more than 120 words, and base your position on the outline given below in Chinese:

A Letter to the President of the University Dear Mr. President, I am writing this letter to you to express my concern about the sports facilities on campus. I have noticed that our university has very limited resources in terms of opportunities to participate in sports, especially given that the number of students on campus is increasing every year. .

.As we both know, sports are very important for the sound growth of young people. If they have access to quality sports facilities, young people are able to choose a healthier lifestyle, to boost self-esteem and confidence, and to build a positive outlook and sense of achievement. My proposal is to build a new sports area. It should be designed with soccer players, basketball players, and ping-pong players in mind. It should have a different section for each activity and be available to students all year round. I believe such facilities will meet our sporting needs. Thank you for your reading this letter.

Yours faithfully, Li Ming
